CONFFIX v3.04
The Conference Rearranger for WildCat! 3.xx
Author: Chuck Warren
What is CONFFIX?
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
After adding one network after another, I found it extremely difficult to
keep the sorted appearance I wanted for the conferences I was carrying.
With this in mind, I decided to write a utility that would allow me to move
(insert) conferences any where I wanted to! So from that concept, CONFFIX
was born.
SETUP:
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
CONFFIX uses a configuration file called CONFFIX.CFG which provides all the
necessary information. The options are self-explanatory, but we'll run
through each one.
* WILDCAT Home Directory * [REQUIRED]
- This is where your MAKEWILD.DAT file is located. Most SysOps probably
use C:\WC30, which is how I have sent out the sample configuration file.
This is also where the TNet! and TomCat! files are located.
* WILDMAIL Directory * [OPTIONAL]
- This is where your AREAS.BBS/WM.CFG files are located.
* AREAS.BBS Info * [REQUIRED IF]
- This setting is ONLY REQUIRED if the WILDMAIL! directory
is provided.
-- There are two settings to choose from:
AREAS
AREASFILE C:\WILDMAIL\AREAS.DAT
If you uncomment AREAS, it will use the AREAS.BBS file located in the
WILDMAIL directory.
If you uncomment AREASFILE, it will look for the ASCII file you designate
after the AREASFILE option. In the above example, I have a file called
AREAS.DAT. This file MUST contain all AREAS.BBS files you want updated.
Full pathing/filenames are required! See the file AREAS.DAT included
with this package.
* TNet! Info * [OPTIONAL]
- This setting is ONLY REQUIRED if you use TNet! and want the TNET.CFG file
updated.
-- There are two settings to choose from.
TNET
TNETFILE C:\WC30\TNET.DAT
These options function the same way as the last discussed options. See
the file TNET.DAT included with this package.
Once you have the CONFFIX.CFG setup for your system design, place it in the
same directory as the CONFFIX.EXE file. You must also have the CONFFIX.KEY
(evaluation) or CONFFIX.ID (registered) in this same location.
USING CONFFIX:
─────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
First of all, this cannot be expressed enough:
BACKUP YOUR SYSTEM PRIOR TO USING THIS UTILITY!
─────────────────────────────────────────────────
Start CONFFIX by entering CONFFIX on the DOS commandline. If you have it in
your path, it will load and read/check all options declared in the
CONFFIX.CFG file. Everything is checked, down to each and every filename
within certain ASCII files you may have elected to use. If anything comes up
negative or conflicting, CONFFIX will give you an error message.
Once your configuration file passes the integrity check, the conferences will
then be read into memory. Once this information has been stored, the menu
will appear showing you a two-column display of your conferences.
- Moving conferences:
─────────────────────
Moving conferences is now a breeze with CONFFIX. First, move the highlight
bar to the conference you want moved. Next, press the [SPACE BAR] to tag
it. You'll see a number appear in the ( ) indicating it has been tagged.
Pressing it again on this conference will untag this item. The number that
will appear is significant because when you tag multiple (up to 99)
conferences, the number identifies the order they will be insert at the new
location. This can be used as a means of sorting your conferences.
Once you have tagged all the conferences you want moved, moved the
highlight bar to where you want the insertion to ocurr. To activate the
insertion, hold down the ALT key and press the letter I. The conferences
will be inserted and the menu will be re-drawn with the changes you just
made.
- Deleting/Clearing conferences:
────────────────────────────────
CONFFIX allows both the deletion and clearing of conferences. The
difference between the two is, deleting totally removes the conference,
whereas clearing does NOT remove the slot, just makes it inactive to your
callers.
To delete a conference, move the highlight bar to the conference you want
to delete, hold down the ALT key and press the letter D. An *D will be
placed in the ( ) to signify it has been selected for deletion. To
undelete a conference you have selected for deletion, simply press ALT-D
again and it will be released from deletion status.
Clearing works the same way, except an *C will be placed in the ( ) and the
conference title will be blanked out.
NOTE: If you have a caller whose 'current conference' gets
deleted/cleared, they will be automatically placed in conference number 0.
- Processing changes:
─────────────────────
Once you have made all the desired changes, press the F10 function key. As
each area is updated, a status screen will be displayed identifying the
action(s) taking place.
DO NOT INTERRUPT THIS PROCESS IN ANY WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!
PITFALLS:
───────────
This actually is a pitfall of any utility that performs this sort of
function. If a caller uses the TomCat! door to download their mail, then
you use CONFFIX to make changes, if they happen to reply to any of the
areas that were moved/deleted/cleared, then TomCat! will place them in what
is now the current area! CONFFIX has NO control over this!
I normally try to let my callers know that I have moved things around by
changing my intro screen to TomCat! - making reference to the fact that I
have moved conferences and any packet uploads could be placed in the wrong
area!
PRECAUTIONS:
────────────
As with any utility, you should BACKUP your system prior to using this
program.
DISCLAIMER:
───────────
Although CONFFIX performs without a problem here, I cannot, and will not be
held responsible for any damage that may result from the use of this program.
This utility is released with NO expressed warranties of any kind.
